Local SEO for a Florida service company is a set of practices you can audit every month. It is not a mystical content calendar. Google’s local ranking guidance still names relevance, distance, and prominence. Your job is to make those three easy to see.
Google Business Profile first
Claim and verify. Real business name. Accurate primary category. Secondary categories only for work you perform. Services filled out. Hours that match the phone. Service areas you cover. Photos from this year’s jobs. Weekly posts are optional. Accurate hours during storms are not.
Do not keyword-stuff the name. Do not create a fake office to rank in a city you visit twice a year. Both fight Google’s Business Profile guidelines.
Reviews and local relevance
Ask after the job. Send a short link. Reply to every review. Recent reviews with the city and service named help prominence and conversion. The FTC’s rule on deceptive reviews is the reason you never pay for stars.
"Local SEO practices Florida contractors can run: Google Business Profile, reviews, citations, service pages, and a 90-day Map Pack target."
Pages that match Florida searches
One strong page per money service. Town pages only where you have crews and proof. Mention seasonal reality when it is true: hurricane prep, summer AC load, salt air, older plumbing in coastal housing. Duplicate statewide blogs that could sit on any trade site do not help.
The site should load under two seconds on mobile. Websites are built to that bar in 30 days.
Citations and links
Identical NAP on Google, Apple Business Connect, Bing, Yelp, BBB, and trade directories. Fix duplicates. Earn mentions from suppliers, manufacturers, chambers, and local news when you sponsor or teach something real. That is prominence. Random blog comments are not.
Answer engines without panic
Clear service copy, schema, and reviews make it easier for Google and other engines to cite you. AI SEO at $1,500 per month is an add-on to active SEO at $3,000 per month. Extra link building is the same add-on price, same rule.
The 90-day Top-3 Map Pack goal is a target. Markets differ. Keep working if you miss it. Track profile calls from week one.

A monthly SEO checklist
- ·GBP: hours, photos, Q&A, review replies, service list.
- ·Search Console: queries that deserve a page, pages that 404, mobile usability.
- ·Citations: new duplicates after a tracker or a storm flyer with a different phone.
- ·On-page: titles, H1s, internal links from the homepage to money pages.
- ·Links: one real local mention beats twenty directory submissions you already have.
- ·Calls: organic vs paid vs direct. If organic is “unknown,” fix tracking before you change the site.
Hurricane week: update hours and service status. Do not publish fake “we’re in your neighborhood now” posts for counties you cannot reach. That is how you earn the reviews that bury Maps work.
What “best practice” is not
It is not guaranteeing the pack. It is not stuffing every city in Florida into one page. It is not Local SEO Setup as a public product. If you need the work done, use local SEO campaigns.
Practice is repetition. A complete profile in January and silence until December is not SEO. The monthly checklist above is the job. The 90-day Map Pack target is how you know whether the repetition is working in the pack. Calls are how you know whether it is working in the business.
Service pages vs blog posts
A water-heater page, a roof-replacement page, and an AC-repair page are practices. A weekly blog that never links to those pages is a hobby. If you write hurricane content, point it at the roofing or tree page you want to rank, and only for counties you serve.
What is the first SEO practice to fix?
Google Business Profile accuracy and review response. Then NAP. Then service pages.
How many city pages should I make?
As many as you can support with unique proof. Three real pages beat twenty templates.
Do backlinks still matter for local SEO?
Relevant local and industry mentions help prominence. They do not replace a complete profile and a usable site.
