Florida Google Ads accounts fail in predictable ways. The geo is the whole state. The landing page is the homepage. Call tracking was never tested. Ads run at 1 a.m. for a shop that opens at 8. This checklist is the gate before you add budget, and the weekly pass after you do.
It is for contractors: roofing, HVAC, pools, kitchens, electrical, plumbing. Competitive metros like Miami, Tampa, and Orlando usually need around $5,000 per month in media to learn anything useful. Google Ads through our Spectrum partnership is $0 agency fee at that spend. The checklist still applies if you run the account yourself.
Before you launch
- 01 Conversion actions: calls from ads, calls from the site, form submits. Test each one with a real phone.
- 02 Call tracking numbers on the landing pages, distinct from GBP if you need to separate sources.
- 03 One campaign per high-value service, or at least ad groups that do not mix emergency with remodel.
- 04 Geo: cities or radius you serve. Exclude counties you will not drive.
- 05 Language and location options: presence in the targeted locations, not interest in them, for most trades.
- 06 Ad schedule aligned to answering hours, plus documented on-call if you sell emergency.
- 07 Landing page per service, click-to-call above the fold, loads in under two seconds on a phone.
- 08 License, insurance, and service-area copy that match Florida reality. No nationwide claims.
- 09 Negative keyword seed list: jobs, DIY, cheap parts, competitor cities you skip.
- 010 Budget cap and a named person who watches it daily the first two weeks.
Ad copy and assets
- ·Headlines that name the service and the city or region.
- ·Sitelinks to the service page, reviews, financing if you offer it, and contact.
- ·Call asset with the tracked number.
- ·Location asset tied to the right listing.
- ·Structured snippets for job types you actually sell.
Do not promise same-day if the calendar is full. Florida customers screenshot ads. Your closer has to live with the line.
Weekly, 30 minutes
- 01 Search terms report: add negatives, promote converting queries to exact if needed.
- 02 Geo report: pause zips that only spend.
- 03 Device and hour reports: cut dead hours.
- 04 Landing page: one test click-to-call and one test form.
- 05 Quality-related: bounce and conversion by page. A slow page is a bid problem in disguise.
- 06 LSAs, if you run them: lead accept speed and job types vs capacity.
Florida checks other states skip
Storm weeks spike roofing, tree, and tarp searches. Either staff up and raise budget with a cap, or pause and let LSAs and organic take overflow. Leaving broad match on during a hurricane watch is how accounts blow a month of budget in 48 hours.
"A Florida Google Ads launch and weekly checklist for contractors: tracking, geo, landing pages, search terms, and hours. Use it before you raise spend."
Seasonal HVAC and pool searches move with heat and spring openings. Build the schedule in the calendar, not as a surprise. Tourist-heavy zips can look like demand and convert like tire kickers. Watch the booked-job column, not clicks.
Bidding, in one box on the checklist
Start with Maximize Conversions or manual CPC only after conversions fire correctly for two weeks. Target CPA too early starves the account. Details live in the bidding guide. This checklist's job is to keep you from bidding on garbage queries.
When the checklist is green, then scale
Raise budget on the service that already produces booked work. Do not clone the campaign statewide. Feed converting queries into SEO service pages so you own some of them later. SEO is $3,000 per month with a 90-day Top-3 Map Pack target. Ads stay on until that asset exists.
PPQL is the off-ramp if you want qualified calls without managing the auction: $1,000 deposit credited. ChatGPT Ads ($1,500 setup, $500 per month) wait until Google tracking already works.

Conversion actions to include, and to leave out
Include: calls over 60 seconds (tune the threshold), form submits, booked appointments if you can pass them back. Leave out: pageviews, time on site, newsletter, chat opened but not completed. If Google optimizes to chat opens, you will get chat opens.
Storm-week addendum
Cap the daily budget. Staff the phone. Switch headlines to inspection or tarp only if that is what you can sell. Pause broad match. Screenshot the search terms. After the event, revert the cap and the copy. Shops that leave storm copy running in November buy confused clicks.
If you cannot staff a spike, pause Search ads and keep GBP accurate. Taking money for jobs you will not reach is how reviews go bad for a year.
Frequently Asked Questions
How often should I change Florida Google Ads?
Search terms and budget every week. Creative every two to four weeks unless something is broken. Daily only during storm spikes or tracking failures.
What bidding strategy belongs on a launch checklist?
Whichever you can support with clean conversion data. If tracking is new, stay closer to manual or Maximize Clicks only long enough to collect conversions, then switch. Do not set Target CPA on day one.
Do I need a separate campaign per Florida city?
Separate by service first. Split cities when budgets and close rates differ enough to justify the extra management.
Can I run this checklist without an agency?
Yes. The work is the same. An agency fee of zero at qualifying spend means you can buy help without a markup on media.
